Detailed Applications (Three Ways)
1. Holding On to God Beside the Pain
Am I bringing my pain honestly before God, rather than denying it?
Anyone who has experienced the pain of childbirth knows how intense it can be. Yet they may choose to have another child because they believe in the joy that will follow. The pain has not disappeared. They simply know that something greater lies beyond it.
There are times when we feel overwhelmed by financial difficulties, broken relationships, or losses we cannot understand. At such moments, please do not tell yourself that you should feel less pain because you have strong faith. Pain is painful.
But beside that pain is God, who is still alive and present with you.
This week, when your heart feels overwhelmed, do not hide your pain. Bring it honestly before God.
Begin by simply saying, “God, I am hurting.”
> “Today, I will not deny my pain.
> I will honestly bring it before God.”
2. Remembering the Departed in Hope
Am I remembering those who have gone before me, not as people who no longer exist, but as those who are alive with God?
Even after Abraham had died physically, God said, “I am the God of Abraham” — using the present tense. This shows that death does not bring God’s relationship with His people to an end.
Those who have died in Christ are now in the intermediate state, living in fellowship with God and awaiting the resurrection of their bodies on the last day.
If there is a family member or fellow believer whom you have had to say goodbye to, do not think of them as someone who has simply disappeared.
They are alive with God.
This week, quietly remember the name of someone you miss. Then say aloud:
“They are now with God.”
> “Today, I will remember the person who has gone before me,
> not as someone who has been lost forever,
> but as someone who is alive with God.”
3. Living Today as Belonging to the Living God
Am I living today as someone who belongs to the living God?
The Sadducees were amazed by Jesus’ answer, but their amazement did not lead them to obedience.
May we not be like them.
To know about the resurrection is not simply to know what happens after death. It is to allow the resurrection to change the way we live today.
This week, hold on to this one truth:
“I belong to the living God.”
Before you begin each day, say these words aloud:
> “Today, I will live this day as someone who belongs to the living God.”
Prayer
Loving Heavenly Father,
You are the God of abundant love and life.
Thank You for reminding us today of the hope of the resurrection.
We confess that, like the Sadducees,
we often try to limit Your work
by what we can understand and experience.
We judge things by what we can see and touch,
and we sometimes make Your power smaller
than it truly is.
Please forgive us.
Lord, today we have heard
that You are the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob,
and that You are still the living God.
Just as death could not bring Your covenant to an end,
help us to believe that our relationship with You
does not end with death.
If there are loved ones whom we have had to say goodbye to,
comfort us with the knowledge
that they are alive with You.
Lord, there is still pain in our lives.
There are financial difficulties,
broken relationships,
and losses that we cannot understand.
We do not simply ask You to take the pain away.
Instead, help us to see,
even in the midst of our pain,
the life beyond death
and the promises beyond our tears.
There are things we cannot understand now.
Yet help us to trust
that one day we will be able to say
that You never let us go,
even then.
Above all, Lord,
help us remember that our hope
is not merely a wish for a better future.
Our hope is built upon a real event —
the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
Christ truly died,
and Christ truly rose again.
Therefore, we believe
that those who belong to Christ
will also be raised to life.
Throughout this coming week,
help us not to deny our pain,
but to bring it honestly before You.
Help us to remember those who have gone before us
with hope.
And help us to live each day
as people who belong to the living God.
We pray all this
in the name of Jesus Christ.
Amen.
